This week at Holy Comforter

I walked into the sanctuary about twenty minutes before the noon prayer service began. A woman with a warm smile was sitting right next to the door. Her name is Lauren.

I sat next to her and we began talking. Because she is more quiet and shy, she would give me one-word answers to my questions. Then she extended her hand to me and opened her palm to show me a quarter. I took it, looked at it, and then gave it back in case she only wanted me to study/appreciate it for a moment. She said, “No, I want to give it to you.” She said she gives quarters to her friends everyday. I thanked her and kept holding the quarter.

After a few minutes, Lauren told me “you can put that up you know.” And I said, “I know, but I like holding it” (because I thought it was such an act of kindness). She responded, “I know what you can do with it! You can put it in the offering!" Lauren proceeded to find an offering envelope for me.

We put both of our names on the envelope.
